Tre's 4th grade class does a huge unit on Alaska this year. They start off by learning the life cycle of salmon, the types of salmon, and much more. On this cold fall morning October 6th we went to a small creek in Palmer where the salmon return to lay their eggs and die. The kids got to open a salmon and retrieve the red salmon eggs and then they got a male salmon and milt comes out of him to fertilize the eggs then the fish and game lady dumps the pitcher in the water and 3000 salmon eggs are fertilized. Then the 4th grade class from Tre's school takes them back and puts them in a giant fish tank, they have to keep the tank at a certain temp, and it get insulated with blue board to keep it dark and warm. By spring these salmon eggs will grow into baby salmon and Tre's class will release them into a river. This was a pretty cool field trip.
